On Monday her temp. dropped from 101 degrees to 99.5.
Then Wednesday at 9:35 a.m. she started labor. At
11:10 a.m. she gave birth to a male puppy. She did pretty
good at getting the cord chewed being it is her first litter.
At 12:10 p.m. she got up and
there was a female. At 12:48 p.m. she had another female. At
12:58 p.m. she had a female. At 1:25 p.m. she had a another female. At 2:25 p.m. she
had a male.
What cuties!
Then at 8:30 she started pushing again and at 9:11 p.m.
she had another female (Graci was pretty tired out and that one was hard to
birth being the pup was big).
Waiting for the last two.
By
10:00 p.m. she was pushing some again and at 10:45 p.m. another female
was born. She was not breathing and was pale. We prayed for her and
began resuscitation. Thankfully our Dad is a respiratory therapist and
started
working on her. He rubbed her and did a little mouth to mouth breathing.
She
started to breath within 5-10 min. but she was so weak. We gave a little
sugar
water. By 11:40 p.m. we got her to nurse a very little. We spent the
rest of
the night taking turns sleeping and trying to get her to feed. By 5:00
this
morning she started screaming, and we got her to drink a little but she
still would
not latch onto Graci's nipple. Then at 7:30 I milked Graci and mom got
her to
drink about 4 eye-droppers. At 9:30 we gave her some more and then gave
her to
Graci as she was starting to suck on mom's finger. She latched on and
drank and
drank. At 10:17 she was crying again to I gave her a nipple and she
latched on
and went to sleep still sucking. Then at 11:16 she found the nipple and
wouldn't let go for any of her siblings. She been drinking off and on
ever
since. She is a little Miracle. She keeps working and fighting and won't
give
up. So we named her Imilimo (pronounced I-mil-ee-moe), after a song from
Zambia, Africa that says, "God has called us to do various types of
work.
Come work for God." And Imilimo means, "Keep working." And she
really fits her name.
The Lord blessed us with 8 puppies - 6 girls and 2 boys.

Week 1 Update -August 28, 2013
The
puppies are doing well and growing like weeds. They gain an average of 2
ounces per day -which when your body weight is approx. 2 pounds is a
LOT.
Little Imilimo is growing fast and healthy despite her setback at birth. She is quite the fighter and is very vigorous.
On
a more sad note we unfortunately lost one of our two males -Hudson,
this week. He suffocated under the Graci Saturday night. She (and we)
was very sad and kept walking around the house looking for him all
Sunday. We adjusted her whelping area and it seems to give her more
room. Also each of us are taking a 3 hour shift at night to watch them
to help us all get more sleep. Needless to say we are all looking
forward to the puppies out growing night care.

Week 2 Update - September 4, 2013
It seems amazing that the puppies are two weeks old already!
Although in some ways with the night shift and camping in the whelping room it seems like we've had them forever.
On
Sunday little Mary's eyes began to open, and one by one this past week
they have started to crack open. Now all of them have their eyes mostly
open.
With
the their eyes open it's like they are discovering their sibling, mom,
and us for the first time. They are really starting to bond and interact
with us and their siblings.
They
are getting good at balancing on those chubby legs. They strain to
stand and then wabble and teeter around; sometimes tumbling and rolling
over several times. Their heads are so big compared with their bodies
that they really have to compensate. I've heard someone say, referring
to this second week, "I call it 'The Age of the Drunken Dinosaurs.'" And
yes the way they teeter around does make them look as if they were
drunk.
They sure are getting CUTE!
And the puppy breath? OH! It is simply wonderful!
Proud Mama
Line up for breakfast.
Peek-a-boo I see you!
And other snap shots.
And other snap shots.
...the best of all ways of sleeping.
Sweet dreams.

Week 3 Update - September 11, 2013
Growing, attempts to run, play, growl and bite, teething...well that might take this week all in.
On their 17 day of life they begin to prick up their ears at sounds. And their little faces were filled with wonder at this newest dimension of life.
Their balance is better this week minimizing the tumbles and falls.
They seem to be finding their voices with little barks now and then.
The world is seeming less of a blur and more clear and distinct.
Some tails are starting to wag.
And the foundation of "come" and submission to their peers is coming along quite nicely.
They really are true Berners loving the company of their human friends already.
If we are holding one pup, another will come and bark as if to say, "Hey! Isn't it my turn now?"
Or they will lay their heads on our knee and look quite content.
Not to be biased, but I have to say they are one CUTE bunch!!!
Breakfast scramble.
Mama just got a bath.

Week 4 Update - September 18, 2013
The puppies are growing like weeds!!
They are starting to play with simple toys and with each other a bit.
Little growls and barks come from them as they play.
We
started potty training them this week they are still in the process of
getting the concept but it is coming. We have been kept busy, busy, busy
this week with them changing bedding; making sure their bed is clean
and that they can smell where they should go.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words...so read slow.
All most not room to eat.
Out grown the laundry basket.
New potty training set up.
Mama just got a bath.
Bye-Bye for now.
Little Mary was trying to convince me that doggy food was for little puppies.

Week 5 Update - September 25, 2013
Growing, Growing, Growing...that about says it all.
The puppies on their 37 day of life got their first meal other than milk.
They thought it was great.
At
first we didn't have the feeding tray we use now so they had a
rectangular pan to eat out of; which meant sticky paws, gooey faces,
climbing into the pan to get the last remnants out.
It was an overall good experience for first time.
Their table manners have improved greatly over the last week.
The Puppies are starting to play even more, growling, biting, and tugging on each other.
They are doing good with all their socializing.
Enjoy the pictures!
Can we fit any more?
First solid meal.

"For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time
are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth
for the manifestation of the sons of God.
For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly,
but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious
liberty of the children of God.
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth
in pain together until now."
Romans 8:18-22
“My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.”
“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;”
Psalm 119:8; Titus 2:13
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;
and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither
shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And
he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
“They
shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall
be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”
“What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.”
Revelation 21:4-5; Isaiah 11:9; Nahum 1:9.
